Two planets out in a binary star system is a large, arid rock. This planet is called Draconia, and it is populated purely by various forms of large lizard, and has been for millions of years. Humans call them Dragons, they call themselves Drakes, or People. Their world can't support life much longer. Except this is over 5,000 years ago as far as you'd reckon. The rock has been dead for some time. The People aren't. This is their chronicle.
The Patriarch Emperor meanders in from his balcony, heeding the Science Councilor's page. Uncertain as to the meaning of the summons, after all He already knows that his people have less than ten orbits to move to the new homeland. Sensing his Master's approach, the Councilor meets him in the corridor to join in a walk instead of be enclosed with one so powerful and tempestuous.
"The time cycles near, Patriarch."
"You insult me by presuming I'm not fully aware of the fate of My People."
"I meant no such slight, Master, but merely remind you that you must Sire a brood soon if you wish to preserve your empire..."
"I understand quite well the pressures, but my mate is not yet old enough to lay a brood...And despite your best efforts to get me to fertilize a brood of your sister, my heirs shall be of lineage purely of my choosing."
"As you wish, Sire, but our --"
The Patriarch's bulk shifted swiftly, much faster than one would expect a wyrm that big to move. Before the Councilor could react, his wings were trapped under him, his rear legs pinned by one of the Emperor's, his short forelimbs useless at this angle. The Emperor's longer frame keeping him out of reach, the Councilor knew his life was forfeit at any moment if he didn't choose his words carefully.
"Grand K'gnathcov Dracov please forgive my --"
"Silence. If I didn't need your support on the Council you would have been dead long before. Stop trying my generosity with your constant attempts to garner power. If you are lucky my heir may choose your line. If you are unlucky I will end your line. Never forget that."
"Yes M--"
"I. Said. Silence."
